Kendo

Fall 2011

Practices @ Loree Gym

Monday 9-11PM

Saturday 11:30AM-2:30PM

We are looking for helpers for the half marathon on April 20-22.  The Rec. department will pay the club 8$/hr/person so this is a great opportunity to get some fundraising done. During the race, you'll essentially be handing out water to runners going by or helping out at the registration and finish tables, depending on where they put us and. If you're interested in helping out at one of these times, please e-mail Joe Wong back by Monday.
(You don't need to be an official member of Rutgers Kendo Club to volunteer under us, so if you have any friends who want to tag along, feel free to bring them :) )

Please fill out the waiver form before you come at: http://itms.rutgers.edu/ssps/form_g_input.html

See you all there!

The Rutgers kendo club is instructed by Bella Church-sensei, but the head sensei is Shozo Kato-sensei, the head of the Shidogakuin dojo. The club is also a member of the Greater North Eastern United States Kendo Federation and the All United States Kendo Federation. The number of club officers and their titles may vary year to year, so check the officer’s page for the most recent list.

Expenses:

Club dues are $45 per semester. Shinai cost $31 and bokken range from $15 to $35. Uniforms are usually not recommended until after a year of practice as they usually cost over $100. Bogu usually costs several hundred dollars and is not recommended until after at least a year of practice.

Activities:
The Rutgers kendo club practices twice a week at times and locations which vary from semester to semester. Please see the practice page for the current practice times and locations. In addition to regular weekly practices, the Rutgers kendo club also participates in various kendo tournaments. In addition to hosting its own tournament at Rutgers, the club has participated in tournaments at George Washington University, Cornell University, and the United States Military Academy.
